Manchester United Quartet Lose Out In Race For Premier League Young Player Of The Season Award

The English Premier league have named their young player of the season and it is none of Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Dean Henderson or Mason Greenwood.

On the back of what may well be described as a stellar season, the Premier League have awarded - look away Manchester United fans- Trent Alexander Arnold as their young player of the season.

The Liverpool fullback beat a star studded list of young players to the much coveted award after registering 4 goals and 13 assists from his defensive position.

Fans and players of Manchester United may feel a tad hard done by- perhaps rightly so- seeing as the club had 4 players who had had excellent seasons on the eight man shortlist.

The award is for players aged 23 or below at the beginning of the 2019/2020 season, and voting was open to fans.

With Martial's 17 goals and 6 assists, Rashford's 17 goals and 7 assists, Greenwood's 10 goals and 1 assist and Dean Henderson's superb performance in the post for Sheffield United, one would forgive Manchester United fans for daring to hope that the award would be won by a player of the club.

However, United's early season form and injuries to Rashford and Martial eventually counted against them as they lost to the Liverpool defender who had just enjoyed a record breaking, title winning campaign.

WHO ALEXANDER-ARNOLD BEAT TO WIN

Jack Grealish (age 24) - Aston Villa

Mason Greenwood (age 18) - Manchester United

Dean Henderson (age 23) - Sheffield United
