An online poll by Manchester United organized after their 1000th game in the Premier League, a 1-0 win over Watford last season, had fans of the club voting for the players they think have had the most impact in the club's Premier League era.
With 13 league titles between their 1st and 1000th game in the Premier League since 1992, it was inevitable that some fan favourites missed out as there is a plethora of quality players to choose from.
Notable among these absentees are Robin Van Persie - the star of the United's 2012/2013 league winning team, Ruud Van Nistelrooy, Peter Schmeichel, and four time league champion - Edwin Van Der Sar.
Starting in goal for the selected XI is David De Gea who recorded a landslide victory over his closest competitors, Peter Schmeichel and Van Der Sar. The Spainard has been the star of the Manchester United team for the last four seasons, winning one Premier League trophy in 2013, The 2016/2017 Europa League, one FA Cup and League cup and was voted as United's player of the 2017/2018 season.
DDG took 59% of the votes, with Peter Schmeichel taking 25% and Van Der Sar left with 15%.
The back four of the all time Manchester United Premier League XI consisted of the same players from the 2007/2008 Champions League winning team.
Gary Neville was chosen for the right back position, after amassing 75% of the votes, beating Antonio Valencia, Rafael Da Silva, Wes Brown and Paul Parker. Neville won 8 Premier League medals as a player and was Mr Reliable at Right back for Manchester United.
In central defence is the legendary partnership of Rio Ferdinand And Nemanja Vidic.
Beating off competition from the likes of Jaap Stam and Steve Bruce, Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand were a core part of what can perhaps be called the greatest defensive partnership in Premier League era, and were part of the record breaking team that went 1311 minutes without conceding a Premier League goal.
At Left Back is Patrice Evra, who endeared himself to the United fans with his quirky personality, relentless energy and athleticism. The defender didn't exactly have the best of starts to his Old Trafford career, but he eventually grew as a player and became a fan favourite. He gathered 63% of the votes, leaving his nearest challenger and treble winner, Dennis Irwin at 30%. Evra won 5 Premier League titles in his time at Manchester United.
Central Midfield sees a Paul Scholes and Roy Keane partnership.
Although argument can be made for Bryan Robson being the greatest central midfield player at United, it's only unfortunate that Robson was at the twilight of his career at the inception of the Premier League in 1992.
Paul Scholes got 70% of the votes, leaving players like Michael Carrick and Paul Pogba in the dust for that position.
Scholes won 11 Premier League titles in his time at Manchester United, cementing his place as not just the best central midfield player at United, but one of the best in the world
In a more defensive Central Midfield position is Roy Keane. Keane was not as skillful as Scholes in midfield, but what he lacked in skills, he made up for in tackles. Roy Keane could tackle!
Roy Keane captained Manchester United to four Premier League titles between 1998 and 2003, adding to the three he had already won before he became captain.
His determination, will to win and influence on his teammates are the qualities that gave Keane the votes in central midfield.
Cristiano Ronaldo occupies the Right Wing spot with 75% of the votes, beating David Beckham and all the other players that have occupied the Right Wing since Premier League began in 1992.
Ronaldo was phenomenal at right wing for Manchester United and it's a surprise he did not get all the votes in the poll.
Left wing is occupied by non other than Ryan Giggs, and rightly so.
Giggs won a whooping 95% of the votes beating Lee Sharp, Jesper Blomqvist, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford.
Giggs played an incredible 22 seasons of Premier League football at Manchester United, and won it on 13 occasions. As a young player, Ryan Giggs was immensely talented with searing pace, accurate passes and mad skill, but he later evolved with time, making himself one of the greatest midfielders to ever play in the Premier League.
In Centre Forward sees an Eric Cantona and Wayne Rooney partnership.
Eric Cantona certainly did not score as much as Van Nistelrooy, Solksjaer or Andy Cole in the Premier League, but his talismanic effect at the club and his larger than life personality got him 41% of the votes.
Prior to his arrival at United, the club were on a 25 year league title drought, but won four titles in five years of his stay at the club before his early retirement.
The 94/95 season where United failed to win the league title in his time there coincided with the time Cantona was hit with a 9 month ban. That is how important the man was for Manchester United.
Wayne Rooney is the other an up front with Cantona.
After joining as a teenager from Everyone in 2004, Wayne Rooney played primarily as a striker, but he was comfortable everywhere across the striking and midfield positions. He could do everything. Wayne Rooney played for 13 seasons at Manchester United winning 5 league titles and scoring 183 Premier League goals, he also went on to become Manchester United's all time top scorer.
